TWB Tasting Notes:
Nose: On the nose, an immediate and robust wave of smoky peat greets you, characteristic of Port Charlotte's 40 PPM phenol content. This intense smokiness is artfully balanced by hints of dark fruits such as blackberry, cherry, and plum, derived from the Syrah cask influence. Sweet undertones of vanilla and honey emerge, courtesy of the initial bourbon barrel maturation. Subtle notes of cinnamon and nutmeg add a warm spiciness, while a gentle maritime essence evokes the coastal origins of the whisky, infusing it with a whisper of sea breeze.
Palate: The first sip reveals a full-bodied and velvety mouthfeel that richly coats the palate. Dominant flavors of well-integrated peat smoke provide a warm and inviting smokiness. This is complemented by notes of dark chocolate and espresso, which add depth and a balancing bitterness to the overall sweetness. Fruity brightness comes through with hints of red berries like raspberries and red currants. Layers of toasted oak and creamy vanilla, inherited from the bourbon casks, are evident throughout. Peppery nuances and a hint of clove introduce an additional layer of complexity, enhancing the whisky's multifaceted character.
Finis: The finish is long and lingering, allowing the smoky and fruity notes to slowly fade in harmony. There's a delightful blend of residual peat smoke and sweet malt, culminating with a touch of tannic dryness imparted by the Syrah casks. This creates a satisfying and well-rounded conclusion to the tasting experience.
