TWB Tasting Notes:
Nose: The Mortlach 15 Year Old Distillery Labels (2023) opens with a rich and inviting nose, offering deep aromas of sherry-soaked raisins, dried apricots, and dark chocolate. There's an underlying meaty note, characteristic of Mortlach, complemented by hints of leather, polished oak, and a subtle wisp of smoke.
Palate: On the palate, this whisky is full-bodied and complex. It begins with flavors of dried fruits—figs, dates, and sultanas—wrapped in warm, spicy tones of cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. The meaty character from the nose carries through, alongside notes of toffee, vanilla, and a touch of espresso. The mouthfeel is velvety, with a perfect balance between sweetness and spice.
Finish: The finish is long and satisfying, with lingering notes of oak, dark chocolate, and a gentle smokiness. It is both warming and slightly dry, leaving behind a pleasant memory of spices and rich, sherried fruits.
