Yamazaki (Japan)

Yamazaki Distillery is situated in the south of the main island Japanese island of Honsh? between Osaka and Kyoto in the Vale of Yamazaki and on the forested foot-hills of Mount Tennozan. Yamazaki Distillery was established in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii who went on to developed the Suntory company which continues to own the distillery. Masataka Taketsuru provided technical advice having spent two years researching whisky production in Scotland.

Yamazaki blended whisky was first released in 1929, making Yamazaki Distillery the first distillery in Japan to produce malt whisky and now it is the oldest Japanese malt whisky distillery. It is equipped with wooden and stainless steel washbacks and twelve stills of various shapes and sizes in order to produce a wide variety of malt whiskies. Yamazaki Distillery matures a small proportion of its malt whisky in Japanese Oak casks which contribute oriental hints of incense and sandalwood.

Orange peel nose, coffee and rich sherry. All the flavours of Dundee Cake; sherry, raisins, cinnamon, chocolate and honey. A classy luxury malt comparable with some of the finest Highland-Parks.
