TWB Tasting Notes:
On the nose, aromas of dried fruits such as raisins, sultanas, and dates are prominent, intertwined with dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, and a hint of orange zest. Subtle notes of polished oak, cinnamon, and nutmeg add a warm spice element, while a delicate sherry sweetness lingers in the background.
The palate is bold and full-bodied, with an initial burst of rich fruitcake, stewed plums, and figs, followed by creamy toffee, dark caramel, and a touch of brown sugar. The influence of the Oloroso sherry butts adds a luscious depth, bringing forward hints of walnut, leather, and sweet spices. There’s a pleasing balance between the vibrant, fresh sherry character from the 1st fill casks and the more subdued, elegant notes from the refill butts.
The finish is long and warming, with lingering flavors of dark chocolate, espresso, and gentle oak tannins, all wrapped in a soft sherry sweetness. The higher proof intensifies the experience, leaving a satisfying aftertaste of dried fruits and spices. This whisky is a beautifully crafted expression, showcasing Macallan’s signature sherried style with a powerful, high-proof twist.
