TWB Tastong Notes:
Nose: A bold, enticing aroma greets you with the rich sweetness of dark fruit compote—think stewed plums, black cherries, and dried figs—all drenched in a luxurious layer of caramelized brown sugar. Hints of roasted coffee beans, cocoa powder, and polished leather underscore the sweetness, while the Mortlach signature emerges as a subtle savory touch, reminiscent of cured meats and toasted walnuts.
Palate: On the tongue, the whisky arrives with a velvety yet robust texture, thanks to its 100-proof strength. Lush flavors of fruitcake, chewy toffee, and chocolate fudge unfold seamlessly, followed by warming notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove. The interplay of first- and second-fill Oloroso casks adds complexity—imagine a succulent blend of dried apricots, date syrup, and a suggestion of earthy, umami-rich malt beneath the layers of sweetness.
Finish: Long, warming, and thoughtfully balanced. As the fruits and spices slowly recede, a gentle dryness emerges. Traces of roasted espresso beans, sherried oak, and a delicate hint of tobacco leaf linger, leaving your palate gently seasoned and ready for another contemplative sip.
