First full release of Mackmyra following the 6-bottle Preludium series.
The whisky is a marriage of 1st fill ex-bourbon casks, small 100-litre casks and Swedish oak casks matured 50 metres underground in Mackmyra's unique Bodås mine.
Mackmyra Distillery was established in 1999 at Valbo near Gävle in south east Sweden and is the oldest working distillery in Sweden. Malted barley is dried with peat and Juniper smoke at Mackmyra Distillery and a small proportion of the new spirit matured in Swedish oak casks. Commercial production commenced at Mackmyra Distillery in 2002 and casks have been laid to rest at a number of unusual sites including an old mine, on a tiny island and in a castle. The first Mackmyra Swedish single malt whisky was released in 2006.
The nose is fruity with citrus, pear, apple, honey, light oak with hints of lightly toasted bread and fresh, buttery caramel. The flavour is fruity and subtle, with citrus, caramel and honey. A light hint of oak can be noted at the end. The aftertaste is well-adjusted and balanced, with hints of dark chocolate.
