Lochside 1981 Vintage Highland single malt Scotch whisky. Refill sherry cask distilled May 1981, bottled December 2001 by Murray McDavid. Rare expression of the lost Scottish distillery which closed in 1992.
Lochside
Between Montrose Basin, and the North Sea on the site of a brewery established way back in the 1760s. The old buildings were demolished during the 1890s and replaced with a rather tall and inelegant new brewery. In 1957 this building was converted to Lochside Distillery with four pot stills and a Coffey still and produced both malt and grain whisky on and off until 1970.
Distilling ceased in 1992 and the works dismantled in 1996. By 2005 the building had been completely demolished. Blocks of modern flats not stand in its place. Most of its whisky went into blends which was bottled on site and during the 1970s a large volume was shipped to Spain, very little was released as single malt.
