TWB Tasting Notes:
On the nose, the Glendronach 18 Year Old presents a rich and inviting bouquet of dark dried fruits such as raisins, figs, and dates, complemented by deep notes of dark chocolate, leather, and polished oak. A hint of roasted coffee, cinnamon, and subtle spices like allspice adds warmth and complexity to the aroma.
The palate is full-bodied and luxurious, delivering a symphony of sherried fruits. Stewed plums, black cherries, and sultanas are front and center, intertwined with flavors of spiced toffee, walnut cake, and a hint of treacle. The Oloroso sherry casks impart a dry nuttiness and a distinct oak presence, balancing the fruit-forward richness. As the whisky unfolds, notes of dark cocoa, roasted nuts, and clove add further depth and a gentle warmth.
The finish is long and satisfying, leaving behind lingering impressions of dried fruits, dark chocolate, and oak spice. The warmth from the sherry maturation gently fades, but the rich, complex flavors continue to evolve, offering a beautifully balanced and enduring experience. This 18-year-old whisky is a superb example of Oloroso sherry cask maturation, perfect for those who appreciate bold, sherried single malts.
