Convalmore 25 year old 1984 vintage matured in refill sherry hogsheads. Bottled 2010 by Gordon & MacPhail for the Connoisseurs Choice series.
Rare Speyside single malt Scotch whisky.
Convalmore Distillery was founded in 1893 and commenced production of Speyside malt whisky the following year. Convalmore joined the James Buchanan blending empire and together they coped admirably with prohibition. A continuous sill was installed in 1909 and produced malt whisky until 1915 when it was removed and was replaced by four pot stills. The tall square four stage still house which housed Convalmore’s continuous still is still standing and is one of only two remaining in Scotland, the other is at the site of Kirkliston Distillery near Edinburgh. The distillery closed in 1985 and whilst the buildings are still standing all the equipment has been removed and so Convalmore Distillery is one of Speyside’s lost malt whisky distilleries.
Nose: Light estery notes, hints of vanilla and fruity.
Palate: Spicy - pepper, sweet and mouth watering.
Finish: Well balanced.
