Cardhu

John and Helen Cumming began producing malt whisky using a single illicit still at their Cardhu Farm in 1811. Cardhu Distillery was officially established at Cardhu farm in 1824 and was equipped with two small stills. Output was quite small until a new purpose built distillery was constructed just up the road and equipped with four stills. Cardhu Distillery is a malt whisky distillery situated in Scotland’s Speyside whisky region and a contributor to Diagio’s Johnnie Walker blended scotch. Visitors are welcomed at the Cardhu Distillery visitor centre where distillery tours are available and the distillery is a participant in the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival.

Nose: Chocolate, toffee and hint of antiseptic cream. Orange candy grows. Very sweet and quite floral. Becomes a little bread like – nan bread with a touch of Turkish delights.

Taste: Lots of orange notes, butter lemons, brown sugar, toffee and some dark fruits, brambles perhaps?

Finish: Hot cross buns with oranges, some forest fruits and quite creamy.
