Glenugie

Glenugie Distillery, originally founded as Invernettie Distillery in 1831 by Donald McLeod & Co., was established on the historic site of a water-powered corn mill. Renamed Glenugie in 1837, the distillery underwent significant reconstruction in 1875 using local red granite, enhancing its architectural stature. Situated just south of Peterhead in Scotland’s prestigious Highland whisky region, Glenugie expanded its production capacity by increasing its stills from two to four in 1956, continuing to produce high-quality malt whisky primarily for renowned Scotch blends. Despite its successful operations and contribution to the whisky industry, Glenugie Distillery closed in 1983, and its remaining warehouses have since been converted into workshops. Today, both official and independent bottlings of Glenugie single malt whisky are exceptionally scarce, making them highly sought after by whisky enthusiasts and collectors worldwide. As one of Scotland’s lost Highland distilleries, Glenugie remains a revered name in the world of Scotch whisky, celebrated for its rich heritage and enduring legacy in malt whisky production.
