Glentauchers Distillery
Glentauchers Distillery Company, founded in 1897 by W.P. Lowrie, a Glasgow-based whisky blender, and James Buchanan, a London-based blender, established the historic Glentauchers Distillery in Mulben, Banffshire, within Scotland’s renowned Speyside whisky region. Commencing distillation in 1898, the distillery was equipped with six stills, positioning it as a significant producer of Speyside single malt whisky. Primarily focused on generating spirit for prestigious Scotch blends, Glentauchers has limited official single malt releases, making its offerings rare and highly sought after. However, exceptional independent bottlings from esteemed companies such as Signatory Vintage, Gordon & MacPhail, and Morrison & MacKay showcase the distillery’s superior craftsmanship and unique flavor profiles. Despite its primary role in blended whisky production, Glentauchers Distillery remains a respected name among whisky enthusiasts and collectors, celebrated for its rich heritage and contribution to Scotland’s esteemed whisky industry. Whether included in renowned blends or enjoyed as exclusive single malts from independent bottlers, Glentauchers continues to uphold its legacy of quality and tradition in the competitive Speyside whisky landscape.
