Glenlochy Distillery

Glenlochy Distillery, established in 1901 after construction began in 1898, was a prominent Highland whisky distillery located at Inverlochy on the northeastern side of Fort William, Scotland. Strategically equipped with its own railway siding connecting to the newly opened Fort William railway line, Glenlochy efficiently supplied southern markets with its exceptional single malt Scotch whisky. The distillery utilized pure snow and rain water draining from the slopes of Ben Nevis, Scotland’s highest mountain, ensuring superior water quality for its whisky production. Despite its successful operations, Glenlochy closed in 1983 and was dismantled in 1986, though several of its historic buildings remain, now repurposed into private residences. Today, Glenlochy’s legacy continues through rare single malt releases featured in Diageo’s Rare Malts range and the exclusive Gordon & MacPhail Rare Old series, making these whiskies highly sought after by whisky collectors and enthusiasts worldwide. As one of Scotland’s lost malt whisky distilleries, Glenlochy remains a revered name in the history of Scottish whisky, celebrated for its rich heritage, distinctive Highland character, and enduring influence on the global whisky landscape.
