Garnheath Distillery

Garnheath Distillery was part of the Moffat whisky complex, created in 1965 by Inver House Distillers when the Moffat paper mills in Airdrie were converted for whisky production. This expansive facility incorporated three different sets of stills, including five column stills at Garnheath, dedicated to producing grain spirit. Remarkably, the complex also housed what was then Europe’s largest maltings, highlighting the innovative scale of the operation. Despite closing in 1986 and subsequent demolition in 1988, Garnheath remains an intriguing chapter in Scotland’s whisky history, with limited releases of single cask Garnheath grain whisky—notably from Cooper’s Choice and Carn Mor—still captivating collectors and enthusiasts alike.
