Caperdonich Distillery
Founded in 1897, the historic Caperdonich Distillery commenced production with its two stills ignited in 1898, strategically located beside the North of Scotland Railway in the northwest corner of Rothes within Scotland’s renowned Speyside whisky region. Unfortunately, Caperdonich opened just as whisky demand sharply declined, leading to its initial closure in 1902. The distillery remained mothballed until 1965 before permanently shutting down in 2002, and was ultimately demolished in 2011. Primarily contributing to blended Scotch whisky, Caperdonich left a lasting legacy, with a limited volume of its Speyside single malt whisky still available through independent bottlers. Notably, Hunter Laing features Caperdonich expressions in their Old & Rare single cask releases, preserving the essence of this lost Scottish malt whisky distillery. Today, Caperdonich Distillery is remembered as a cherished part of Speyside’s rich whisky history, celebrated by whisky enthusiasts and collectors worldwide for its enduring impact on the world of Scottish whisky.
