48 Year Old Invergordon Apollo 17

A truly remarkable cask of whisky.

With our series of single cask whiskies celebrating the Apollo moon program, we have been celebrating the manned missions to the moon. On one occasion for Apollo 13, we managed to time things just right and tie up a 13 year old cask to the mission number. Here we have gone one better. (Invergrodon) 'We're On our Way, Houston', 48 Year old, 1972, Blended Grain, Cask #TWB1024, 49.6%

On the 13th December 1972, Astronauts Eugene Cernan and Harrison Shcmitt performed the last of the lunar surface explorations. This would be the last human footsteps not only of the Apollo missions but of anybody. On this same day back on planet Earth, this very whisky from Invergordon distillery was being filled into its cask. 48 years later, this cask was ready for bottling. In September 2021 the cask was emptied and is now ready to add to the TWB Apollo whisky collection.

Only 109 bottles have been yielded from the cask. Stated as a 'blended grain' this is more to do with a technicality/formality/error on the casks paperwork. For official reasons we have to state this as a Blended Grain but we know that is all Invergordon. Scotch rules. Featuring the Apollo 17 rocket launch vehicle on the launch pad, with Command Module 'America' and Lunar Module 'Challenger' perched on top with astronauts Eugene A. Cernan, Ronald E. Evans and Harrison H. Schmitt, we are delighted to add this wonderful cask to our series of Apollo whiskies.

N.B.

We get many queries as to how many bottles will be in the series. We are aiming to mark each of the manned Apollo missions. For the eagle eyed among you, will have noted we have not yet featured missions 12, 14 of 16 among our 'black label' Apollo whiskies. These are still to come. And we have another epic cask in the pipeline for one of them.
